Bidets

Bidets are a type of bathroom fixture characterized by its low mounted plumbing design. According to home builders, bidets are also considered sinks except that they’re made entirely for the purpose of washing and cleaning the person’s anus and genitalia. The term bidet is actually a French coining. Read on to learn more about this simple but interesting bathroom fixture.

It’s surprising to know that bidets are called so after a popular sports pastime. Bidet is the French for pony and when you say bider in French that means to trot. The term came to being since sitting on a bidet works exactly the same as you would sit on a pony. And you would have guessed it right, bidet is an invention of French origin. It all started in the last years of the 17th century when rich Frenchmen were looking for ways to clean up their private parts after toilet use. No exact name was given until this time as to who invented the bidet although reports have sprouted that Christopher Des Rosiers, a famous furniture designer from the French Royal Family, was responsible for the idea.

The earliest bidets were only found in the bedroom. And since the development in plumbing design, toilet bidets were more often seen in the bathroom. In the 1960s, an invention that enabled connection of different toilet arrangements was introduced which was a big space saver in bathrooms where separate toilet and bidet can’t be accommodated.

Fast forward to the present, bidets have become more advanced and have expanded its usefulness. Today, bidets serve as a washing place for women who are undergoing menstruation or those with hemorrhoids. Bidets are also a big help for people with physical challenges. But many home owners however are still not convinced of getting their bidet.

Installing a bidet is actually not that difficult. Most dealers and bidet makers offer instruction manuals on the installation process. There are different bidet designs that will fit any type of bathroom interior. Ask any plumber, and setting up a bidet is no longer a construction concern.

Most home owners believe that they will need to re-design their house’s plumbing plan in order to facilitate the installation of bidet. In actuality, the plumbing cost is not a big burden for a home owner. You will find it really easy since bidets are made to fit into any existing plumbing design. You will not have to worry about costly modification and noisy drilling. All you need is an additional electric outlet to supply electric current for the bidet unit.

And now that electricity is being introduced, don’t ever think that you will get electrocuted if you use a bidet. Home owners often formulate that wrong perspective of water and electricity risk. But the user does not have to worry about this as the electrical component of the bidet is mounted safely and covered with a protective casing. However, the user is still advised not to run the cord near damp and potential water supply.

Another misconception about bidets is that quality is not much of an issue. Others would say, “”Why would you get a very expensive fixture when you are just going to use it for not so important things?”

It may not be something that you frequently show off to your guests, but getting a quality bidet will assure you of durability and robustness. Always opt for the best brand and the best model in the market. After all, you are the one who’s going to benefit from it. Choosing a cheap bidet is your risk. Remember that you will be using the bidet for hygiene purposes. And it’s all the more important to maintain proper hygiene for your intimate parts as you would want your face or your hair to be always clean.
