A Glimpse At Its History

So how did the two Jacuzzi “Italian” brothers who immigrated to California in early 1900’s turn their family business into a renowned household name? It started with picking oranges and constructing airplanes.

The “orange picking” played a significant role in their future than was expected. Although their attempt into the aviation industry did well at first, with its creation of the remarkable propeller “Jacuzzi Toothpick” and the “enclosed cabin monoplane”, a perturbed market and an accident gave way to a different path for the brothers.

In 1925, they modernized the pump industry by developing a pump that had the capacity to efficiently draw water from the ground than any other pump created before it. In 1956, their inventive abilities led them to respond to a family member’s necessity for “pain relieving hydrotherapy”. The brother’s ingenuity and knowledge of hydraulics showed the way for creating the “portable hydrotherapy pump”.

This invention, called the J-300 turned a normal bathtub into a rejuvenating and relaxing hydro-therapeutic spa. This invention was remarkable idea that began a niche market, opening an opportunity for the Jacuzzi name to be a household name.

In1968, Roy Jacuzzi, a family member of the third generation, brought the invention to the next level. His passion for engineering and design became a reality when he manufactured and marketed the world’s very first whirlpool bath called the “Roman”. In1970, bigger units were created with built-in filtration and heating systems, which was able to accommodate a group of people, thus fashioning the first spa.
